Playwright

As a playwright, Michael’s interests lie primarily in stylized work. He explores turning understood narratives into new stories, reimagining them in the process, though he often also creates original narratives with timeless themes. He makes it his goal to always be working on a new script, and to not limit himself within the confines of genre or style.

Plays

The Ballad of Blank Meter

A heightened two-act which explores what it means to be an artist and the struggle of creating art in the wake of tragedy. The play follows Johnathan, a young writer as he tries to navigate the relationships in his life as well as his ideals of success and artistry.

Eden is Burning

Written as part of the Baldwin Wallace University Summer Scholars Fellowship Program, this one-act has a non-linear plot that follows key points in Adam Alman's life and relationship with father and grandfather from ages 16 to 30 years old. The play explores the intergenerational struggle between these three men and their conflicting views on life, religion, their own relationships to each other, and the family secret that forces Adam to view his father in a new light.

The Gods of Eternity

Dan Bohemia, a director fallen from grace, has to run a rehearsal of a new play written (poorly) by Derek Smith. This quickly goes awry as Dan finds many problems with the script and the producer's expectations for it. Dan comes to learn that this is the least of his worries. This farcical one-act delves into the chaos of a rehersal room with a supernatural twist.
